ASHBURN, VA – 15 December 2025 – Morcom International, Inc., a premier provider of secure and reliable communication solutions for critical infrastructure, today announced it has been awarded a contract by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) to replace the essential Voice Communications System (VCS) at the Ramp Control Tower (RTC) at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
This major multi-phase project is crucial for replacing the aging, analog air traffic support system with a modern, digital solution that ensures uninterrupted, seamless, and safe voice communication between ramp controllers and pilots at this key international gateway.
The Project: Enhancing Safety and Operational Resilience for MWAA
The existing Ramp Control Tower utilizes a legacy analog DENRO VCS, which is beyond its service life. Morcom will deliver a complete, turn-key solution, modernizing the facility with a state-of-the-art digital VCS that is scalable and fully integrated into IAD’s existing network environment.
Key deliverables for the MWAA Dulles VCS Replacement include:
1. System Integration and Deployment (Phase I): Replacement and installation of the new digital VCS across 12 control positions, including the integration of all essential radio and voice systems such as General Dynamics VHF radios, Motorola NICE Recorder, Motorola 800mhz radios, and the Ring Central VoIP System.
2. Compliance and Interoperability: Ensuring the system features essential capabilities such as control position override, integrated backup power, and full interoperability with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s shout line.
3. Future-Proofing Infrastructure (Phase II): Designing the system for future expansion and relocation of four control positions to the new Tier II/E Concourse upon its completion, ensuring maximal return on MWAA’s infrastructure investment.
4. Long-Term Support: Providing comprehensive training for all system users and a four-year extended warranty on all labor and parts, guaranteeing long-term operational stability and support.
“The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is responsible for the movement of over 40 million passengers annually. Their selection of Morcom to handle this critical VCS replacement is a powerful endorsement of our technical rigor and deep expertise in complex, high-reliability communications,” said Manuel Ojeda, Morcom’s Chief Technology Officer. “Our team understands that there is zero margin for error in an airport environment. We are committed to delivering a digital solution that not only meets but exceeds MWAA’s requirements for safety, scalability, and performance, ensuring Dulles remains a world-class travel hub.”
